Implant restorations – how CAD/CAM changes the game

Nowadays, more and more patients ask for metal-free restorations. Ceramic implant restorations may be fabricated by means of CAD/CAM. The digitization of the implant may take place intraorally with an intraoral scanner or in the dental laboratory by scanning a conventional cast model. Generally, the design of the implant restoration is perfomed by the dental technician or by the dentist in a chairside workflow. Different ceramic and hybrid materials are available on the market for the manufacturing of implant restorations. In addition, the restoration can be fabricated in the dental office, the dental laboratory or in a centralized milling center. In the lecture, the advantages and disadvantages of the different restoration materials and the various fabrication processes will be discussed critically
